How to Loosen or Relax Elastic in Socks or Clothes

united states of america 10 April, 2021 19:13HRS

The socks with tight elastics or the elastic in clothes can create not only temporary squeeze marks on the body but also causes discomfort and irritation. Also in certain cases loosening of elastic of clothes or socks can be required for getting the jackets, garments or socks to fit better on your body.

In this article we will explore the best option to stretch these elastics of clothes or socks without need of cutting, stitching and all complicated stuff.

The prime solution for this problem is to obviously buy clothes or socks that fit perfectly. But if things are already too late for this tip (Obviously) then ideal option would be to use heat and stretching at same time to loose the elastic in socks or clothes.

Equipment for heating to elastic of socks or clothes:

IRON or HAIR DRYER or HOT DRYER or HOT WATER

Best among these would be Normal Iron (Without Steam) and Hair Dryer.

STEP 1: HEATING UP THE ELASTIC

Iron the elastic area of socks or any apparel you want to loosen up, or use Hot Hair dryer to heat it up.

After applying heat on the elastic area for 8 to 12 minutes (Not more than 15 Minutes), stretch the elastic by hands or stick.

The goal is to have the elastic heated and keep it stretched to ideal looseness until it cools down and takes shape again. The elastics used in garments such as socks, lowers, track pants, pull-on pants, joggers, gloves, hoodies or jackets change their original shape when heat is applied on a high temperature on them. And they obtain the shape after cooling down.

STEP 2: STRECHING WHEN HOT

The elastics used in garments such as socks, lowers, track pants, pull on pants, joggers, gloves, hoodies or jackets change their original shape when heat is applied on a high temperature on them. And they obtain the shape after cooling down.

Continue to Iron the elastic area of a garment or heat it by blow dryer while pulling the elastic and stretching it by hands or any means to ensure it stays stretched.

The application of heat from the iron or hair dryer will relax up the elastic strength of the material and make it permanently lose to the ideal stretch.

This is the reason why we advise to STRECH WHEN HOT. And let them stay stretched till they cool down.

STEP 3: COOLING THE HOT STRECHED ELASTIC

Stretch the garment to the required size when it’s hot and immediately cool it down so it obtains the new shape. When the elastic part of the garment will cool down, it will acquire the new stretched, lose and relaxed shape/size.

To cool the garment fast you can damp the elastic part with cold water or ice. But if you wish to keep it dry, then put it inside the refrigerator for some time or; in front of the Air conditioner at the lowest temperature settings as well.

IN SHORT:

STEP 1: Heat Up the elastic

STEP 2: Stretch elastic when it’s hot

STEP 3: Cool down the elastic immediately (Don’t let it relax back till its cool)
