The water filtration device we will make acts as a solid barricade between water and impurities that barricades impurities of water from flowing through. As for the objective this water filtration funnel is intended to be used for filtering waters from non-salty water bodies and make it safer for drinking in emergencies and for survival situations.
The purest form of water is just the H2O molecule but it is hard to get hold of. Water contains many bacteria, microorganisms, chemicals, dirt and other impurities. By the purification process many minerals (That can be healthy), impurities, microbes, bacteria and chemicals (That are unhealthy) are removed from water thus making is much safer to drink or use.
Water has good minerals which are healthy for body like magnesium and calcium; however it also has many bad and unhealthy type of chemicals.
The capability and the “Know-How” of making a DIY Water purification or water filtration system are critical for situations that are far from ideal and require essential needs for survival on your own. Such situations can occur in times of epidemic, pandemic, travelling, hiking, trekking, walking etc. These scenarios are considered extreme situations but at certain times they happen, that’s why being ready for such situations is the key factor of getting out alive.
The Quick water filter we will create here is an improvised filtration funnel that is made up of different layers of earth and minerals that simply filters impurities layer by layer confined inside a half-cut bottle. From the top, it filters bigger particulate impurities then continues to filter smaller and smaller impurities as water moves further downwards into the filtration funnel and hence purifying water when it finally flows outside.

6. Piece of Cloth
STEPS for Construction of DIY Water Filter:
STEP 1: Cut the Plastic Bottle in Half (Keeping Bottle head part Longer)
STEP 2: First Layer towards the Mouth of the Bottle will be a Piece of Cloth of any fine fabric.
STEP 3: Add Activated Charcoal as the second Layer, Over the Fabric Cloth.
Activated Charcoal filters and removes harmful chemicals and live pathogens
STEP 4: Now add Sand over the Activated Charcoal layer Sand filters small particle-like impurities that will be left un-filtered by the gravel, Stone and Activated Charcoal layers.
STEP 5: Pour fine gravel and small stones over the Sand Layer The fine stones and gravel layer will filter sticks and impurities like plant parts etc.
STEP 6: Final and Top most layer will be made up of larger stones and pebbles This layer of rocks and pebbles will filter and stop debris like larger biological elements, such as tree leaves or sticks from flowing further into the filtration funnel.
IF POSSIBLE IT IS HIGHLY ADVISED TO BOIL THIS FILTERED WATER BEFORE DRINKING.
In times of emergencies such as natural or man-made disasters, usually people will not have any access to drinking water as water supplies can be damaged or completely cut off. Supermarkets can be running out of water bottles as the demand for same will be increased in such situations.
Access to Electricity, food, Medical Care and Transportation can get affected for a while. In such situations and times, people will be required to adapt and improvise to fulfil their basic needs on their own. Having key survival Knowledge will be the main difference between life and death.
